The Seattle Disability Commission seeks applications to fill vacancies on the Commission. The Commission is seeking individuals passionate about working with local government officials to improve experiences within the disability communities. Commissioners have the opportunity to promote positive change by working with community groups and individuals to identify areas of concern, by making recommendations regarding policy and legislative changes, and by serving as liaisons between communities and city government.
Applicants must live or work in Seattle, demonstrate a commitment to social justice and civil rights, be collaborative leaders, and demonstrate desire and ability to dedicate 10-15 hours per month. This includes attendance at monthly meetings, participation in committee work, meeting with City departments, communicating with legislators, and addressing community concerns.
Candidates should consider attending a monthly Commission meeting occurring on:
- Every Third Thursday of each month, from 4:00-6:00pm
Disability commission meetings currently provide several accommodations including live captioning, ASL interpreters, and documents in 22-point font for screen readers. Please see the commission website to learn more about the commission.
