Now Hiring! Communications and Social Media Intern

The Seattle Office for Civil Rights is hiring for a Communications and Social Media Intern.

The Communications and Social Media Intern will be tasked with managing and tracking SOCR’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube accounts; content creation, including graphic design and video production; and assisting SOCR’s Communications Advisor with media inquiries, press relations, copywriting, and copyediting. This position will report directly to the Communications Advisor.

This internship opportunity will provide real life experience to someone seeking to understand the communications strategies of municipal government in a department that focuses on civil rights law, policy development, and race and social justice issues. As one of the leading City governments in the United States on RSJ work, we are thought leaders and developers when it comes to racial equity analysis for government institutions at the local level.

Specifically, this individual will take away from this assignment:

  • The ability to develop, manage, and lead communications strategies, particularly related to social media messaging.
  • Learn how to navigate complex political climates.
  • Learn how to work within government institutions with a strong emphasis on authentic community engagement.
  • Have a deeper understanding of public relations and crisis management in overall communications strategies.

Start/End Dates: Intern will start in August 2022 and ending in February 2023. Intern will work 20 hours/week. Work hours can be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

Salary: Undergraduates will be paid $19.09/hour.
